Itinerary

 

Day 1: Arrive in Halifax, NS

Welcome to Halifax! This evening meet your fellow travelers at a Welcome Reception hosted by your Tour Director.

Day 2: Halifax/Ferry Crossing/Port-Aux-Basques

From Halifax, travel over the Canso Causeway to Cape Breton Island, then board a ferry to cross to Port aux Basques, your port of entry to Newfoundland. (B, L)

Day 3: Port–Aux-Basque/Corner Brook
 
The drive leads through southeastern Newfoundland to the Codroy Valley and on to Corner Brook, the second largest city in Newfoundland. Enjoy a city tour and the view from Captain James Cook Monument. (B, D)

Day 4: Corner Brook/Port Au Choix

Gros Morne National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is one of the highlights of Newfoundland. Visit the Broom Point fishing exhibit and the Lobster Cove Lighthouse and see the striking beauty of the sheltered fjords of peaceful Bonne Bay. Afterward, continue north to Arches Provincial Park and Port au Choix National Historic Site. (B, D)

Day 5: Port Au Choix/L’anse Au Clair

Today’s highlight is Red Bay National Historic Site, where Basque fishermen had a whaling station in the 16th century. Spend the night in wild and remote Labrador. Note: Icebergs are most often seen in June and July. (B, D)

Day 6: L’anse Au Clair/St. Anthony

Enter L’Anse aux Meadows National Historic Site, location of the only Viking settlement in North America and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Visit the reconstructed sod houses and learn how the Vikings lived here over 1000 years ago. Tonight, get ready for a traditional Viking feast and dinner show. (B, D)

Day 7: St. Anthony/Cow Head

On an exciting whale watching cruise you may see dolphins, puffins, eagles and in June and July, perhaps even icebergs. Next visit the GrenfEll Mission, where Sir Wilfred Grenfell brought modern medicine to remote Labrador towns. We then head south to Cow Head. (B, D)

Day 8: Cow Head/Gander

This morning we continue exploring Gros Morne National Park. We then head east via Grand Falls visiting the Mary March REGIONAL Museum en route to Gander, known as the international crossroads of the world. Re-enter Gros Morne National Park and travel to Norris Point for a scenic boat tour across the Bonne Bay fjords to Woody Point. Here you learn about the geology of the Tablelands. (B, D)

Day 9: Gander. Visit to Twillingate

Follow the scenic coastline of Notre Dame Bay through colorful villages. Visit the Long Point Lighthouse, from whose cliff top viewpoint you may spot huge icebergs and whales. Back in Gander visit the North Atlantic Aviation Museum, depicting Gander’s crucial role during World War II. (B, L, D)

Day 10: Gander/St. John’s

Today visit Terra Nova National Park, the most easterly of Canada’s beautiful National Parks. Arrive in St. John’s and enjoy an intriguing tour of the old seaport. (B)

Day 11: St. John’s Exploration

Enjoy a sightseeing cruise through Witless Bay Ecological Reserve, home to over two million birds including Atlantic puffins. Watch for Humpback, Minke and Fin whales. Tonight enjoy a Farewell Dinner hosted by your Tour Director. (B, D)

Day 12: Depart St. John’s

Bid a fond farewell to Canada’s newest, yet oldest province. Memories of this remote part of the world will be recalled for years to come. Transfer at leisure to the airport for you flight home. (B boxed breakfast)
